Born in 1989 (Kinshasa, DRC), Emmanuel Letila lives and works in Kinshasa. Since he was a child, he excelled in the practice of drawing. In 2012, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and created the Buanya Collectif with his fellow painters. In 2016, he decided to follow his own path and opened his studio.
Considered as one of the rising stars of the "new wave" generation, Emmanuel embraces a variety of artistic media and forms. There is no limit to his creative expression. Next to the classical techniques like gouache or oil paint, the artist experiments with more unusual substances, such as soap, plastics and fruit juice. Surprising materials are also used as substrates for his paintings such as velvet, wood, metal sheets and even old doors!
Socially engaged, Emmanuel is particularly concerned by the impact of recent conflicts, international politics and global warming on the African children’s future. Both strong and tender, his images give us a glimpse of the complex situation faced by the most fragile beings.
