Bouvy Enkobo is a Congolese painter born in 1981 (Kinshasa, DRC). Son of the renowned sculptor Modste Enkobo, Bouvy has been drawing since his early years. At the early age of twelve, he began to sell postcards from his own design. Even if he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa in the late 1990s, he belongs to the "new wave" generation eager to renew the artistic scene.

With his expressionist style he moves away from the highly figurative Congolese Popular painting. Exploring this new abstract way of creating enables him to express various emotional landscapes of his country rather than any specific characters. Without any personal attributes, the human figures presented in Bouvy’s works allow the viewers to create a personal bond between their own emotions and the image they face. At the same time, those images evoke today's evolutions of society, often regardless of the individuals. Translated into vibrant colors, creation and destruction are profoundly related to the rhythm of contemporary Congolese cities still extending themselves despite conflicts and poverty.

Since 2009, Bouvy Enkobo has exhibited extensively in DRC, Belgium and France. In 2014, he was honored with the European Union special prize at Yango Biennale in Kinshasa. Today, his work is present in many private and public collections such as: Fondation Hirondelle and the Delegation of the European Union in DRC.
